our sofa makeover

We gave our sofa a makeover! We paid $300 for this sofa at a Pottery Barn outlet in 2007. She served her time, but that microsuede fabric and dark frame and legs were ready for an update.

Here she is above in her original state. Anyone spot the literal Peeping Tom in this photo?

We changed the two seat cushions to one bench seat and had it reupholstered in a performance fabric. We went with RH Perennials Performance textured linen in charcoal, not only for the look but for the durability and ease of cleaning.

We sanded down the frame and finished it with Rubio Monocoat (we love to use hardwood floor finishes for all kinds of things). I’ve used this finish on client projects as well and love the outcome. Since the frame was originally so dark, I wanted to go opposite and keep it light. We went with natural and I love how it turned out.

She’s feeling much better about herself now!

While I wouldn’t say it’s always best and the most cost effective to work with what you have, it was for us in this case. We actually did this project 4 years ago and she’s still going strong.
