Tip #1

There really can be too much of a good thing and this is true when it comes to water and your hardwood floors. Cleaning them does not require using a bucket and traditional mop, contrary to popular belief. You need to keep your floors from getting saturated with water, so the best tool to use when cleaning them is a microfiber mop. We advise spraying your microfiber mop with a cleaner specifically made for hardwood floors and then gently misting the floors with this cleaner as you go. Of course, before this step you need to get the dust bunnies and debris up first with a broom or vacuum.

Tip #2

Tip #2 is all about the cleaner you use. As we said, use a cleaner designed for use on hardwood floors (even if you’re tempted to make your own!). Never use vinegar or ammonia as they are acidic and can dull and damage your floor’s finish—and we know you don’t want that! Don’t use dish soap or laundry soap either.

Tip #3

Finally, tip #3 is to control the debris that comes into your house. You can do this by placing mats at each door, having family members remove their shoes upon entering and sweeping/vacuuming regularly. The debris can be small, but still lead to scratching and eventually dull your floor’s finish.
