some 2021 hardwood flooring trends we’re loving

I’m not sure I would really call these trends but more... classics that are still oh so good in 2021.

First up is a herringbone pattern. I’ve been wanting to do this in our own home for a few houses now and we’re FINALLY planning on doing it in our newest fixer upper that we moved into in November 2020. Our plan is a herringbone pattern in the foyer and dining room and I can’t wait! Stay tuned for that!

Next up is wider planks. We have gone a little wider with our hardwood flooring each time we move. 2 ¼” to 3 ¼” and this time we’re jumping to 5” solid ¾” white oak select and 4” white oak select for the herringbone pattern.

Natural white oak is the next one that is still moving in to 2021. We did this natural white oak process when we refinished our floors in our last house in 2020 (below) and are planning to do a natural white oak finish again this time around, unless I change my mind and go super dark. That is definitely a possibility, but for now, I’m saying natural white oak.

Or really dark. I love a good natural white oak. I would say it’s my favorite. But a super deep brown stain in the right aesthetic is a close second and may even move to first on occasion.

And last but not least is a matte finish. The less sheen the better. I’m talking no sheen at all. Gone are the days of shiny equals new and clean.
